Abstract:
Due to the recurrent occurrence of major floods around the world, several alerts methods have been developed to reduce the risk and damage. In this context, hydraulic modelling can certainly provide reliable and accurate results especially when these models can exploit the extensive information provided.Hydraulic modelling is used to analyse the system's hydraulic behaviour and simulating the river flows. To this end, there are several types of methods. In this situation, two river namely, Jhelum & Chenab were selected for river flood modelling using One Dimensional approach. Section of River Jhelum was taken between Mangla and Rasul. While River Chenab was taken from Marala to Qadirabad. The inflow data from Mangla & Marala were used to route the flood in Jhelum & Chenab.these stations. The Hydrograph at Rasul & Marala were then checked against the observed discharge and the error was noted. The Statistical Analysis Showed Adjusted R value ranging from 85 – 97%, while the R-Square value fluctuated betweent 75% to 95%. The NASH coefficient also gave values above 80% with some outliers. This study will include 1D flood modelling for both river Chenab and Jhelum using Hec-Ras. The spatial characteristics of the basin are described by base maps i.e. Digital Elevation Model (DEM), in GIS from using 90m cell size. After the simulation, sensitivity analysis will be performed for the required parameters which have a real impact on modelling.
