Murree -Jhika Gali being well renowned tourist resort in one of the hilly areas of Pakistan. Jhika-Gali is not only a place of tourist attraction but also an important strategic location. A number of defense installation and headquarter i.e. PAF base and divisional head quarters are located in the adjoining areas. Jhika Gali is an evolving metropolis subjected to constant tourist increase every year resulting in maverick urbanization leading to increasing congestion and drainage problem. Seepage from drainage system and pounding of rain water saturated the top soil with deterioration of bed rock ensuing in major slope failures. This area has been severely affected recently by a similar landslide. This land slide has affected the local road. This project will cover the critical aspects of sedimentary rocks, analysis of this slope and provide an economical solution to this natural disaster. The research study is aimed at studying the behavior of the soil in the area along with determining the root cause of slope instability in Jhika-Gali. Main objectives are listed as under. Preliminary Survey of the area. Determination of slope instability parameters. Possible solution to the rehabilitation of landslide including Truss Bridge (designed on SAP 2000) and Slope benching with Geo-textile (Proposed by CONSULTANT). Analyzing CONSULTANT rehabilitation design on different software. Modeling of slopes in software namely Slide V 6.0, Phase 2.0, Geo-slope for 2D and surfer 8 for 3D modeling. 2D and 3D analysis of the slope. Cost estimation for providing economical solution to the problem. Analyzing the slope failure that later occurred during the construction. Analyzing the CONSULTANT design (Piling at the toe of slope) for slope failure occurred during construction. Providing the economical solution (slope Benching) against CONSULTANT design (Piling at the toe). Providing the remedial measure once slope failure is triggered (at FOS 1). Outcome of our research for this project will be the economical solution to the problem, remedial measure that should be taken in order to avoid slope failure in soils with high moisture content and deteriorating sedimentary rock at their residual strength, along with the design of the rehabilitation of slope at Murree -Jhika Gali. |
