Abstract:
The Personal Information Retrieval System project is underway in NIIT under the supervision of Mr. Shahzad Khan. The Personal Information Retrieval System (PIRS) is a visionary project for personal Knowledge Management. Currently, the main indexing and information retrieval engine is mature, however some of the information interfaces are not implemented.
The PIRS-Data Backup Interface Agent (PIRS-DBIA) system is a module of the PIRS system which will allow a user’s files to be automatically scanned and transferred to the main PIRS server for processing. We refer to this project as a Data Backup Interface Agent for two reasons, (1) it automates the transfer of file from the client to the server, and (2) it resides unobtrusively on the client PC as a daemon process.
It is a cross-platform solution that migrates information from Windows clients to Linux servers, in line with the PIRS vision.
