dc.description.abstract Laterally loaded piles are piles subjected to lateral and axial loads but axial loads are ignored for analytical simplicity. Several models exist for the analysis of single laterally loaded piles. The objective of this thesis is to perform a comparative study of the accuracy, suitability, and cost effectiveness of these models. The comparison is important because several ambiguities arise regarding which method is most suitable. The models analyzed in this thesis are Broms, Brinch Hansen and P-Y models. Furthermore, the effect of varying pile diameter, pile length and reinforcement are also analyzed. For this purpose we have used LPILE software which makes use of PY curves. For Broms method an application has been developed using Visual Studio 2016 and .Net language. The results from Broms, Brinch Hansen and LPILE have been compared with field results obtained from Tomlinson (α -method) and AASHTO LRFD method. en_US
