Abstract:
One Cycle Control Based Maximum Power Point Tracking & Power Factor Correction Inverter for PV Energy Conversion System
Renewable energy, such as solar energy, is desirable for power generation due to their unlimited existence and environmental friendly nature. Solar energy is the most abundant form of renewable energy which has a huge potential in the sun-rich countries like Pakistan. However its cost is too high to favor a good penetration of solar energy in the country’s power system.
This project aims to design and develop a very efficient and cost effective grid-tie single-stage inverter with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) by implementing a novel technique called One Cycle Control (OCC).This control scheme is based on the output current-adjusting feature of OCC. The output current of the inverter can be adjusted according to the voltage of the photovoltaic (PV) array so as to extract the maximum power from it. In the meantime OCC guarantees that the output current is proportional and inphase with grid voltage. All these are accomplished in one power stage and a simple control circuit. The novelty about OCC is that OCC based energy conversion system will yield the power quality as well as the maximum power point tracking in just a single stage.
Hence such a grid-tie inverter can increase not only the affordability of the user but also the penetration of solar energy in our power system.
