dc.description.abstract The project covers the design and development of three critical modules for preliminary design of PNSS-1 (Pakistan National Student Satellite). It is a micro satellite intended for Lower Earth Orbit (~500km) with a mission life of 1-2 years. Project involves extensive research into design and dynamics of satellites. The Power module handles all the power requirements of the satellite with solar panels and battery bank. Solar panels are mounted on the surface of the satellite and they charge the battery which provides power to all of the modules. The Data Handling module controls the flow of information between ground station and all the modules of the satellite though communication module. The data handling module is the gateway for incoming and outgoing telemetry and tele-command traffic. The module also possesses the ability to program microcontrollers in the module. ADCS (Attitude Determination and Control) module controls the attitude of the satellite through actuators and determines the bearing of the satellite through sensors. The inertial measurement unit is used to determine the orientation of the satellite and this data is used to maneuver the satellite to desired orientation. The desired orientation is determined by antenna direction and maximum energy collection from sunlight. en_US
