dc.description.abstract |
We have developed a Public Transport Tracking System (PTTS) as our Senior Design Project (SDP) under the supervision of Dr. M. Shahzad Younis (Advisor) and Dr. Sohail Iqbal (Co-Advisor). The basic functionality of our SDP is to track transport vehicles inside NUST. Transport vehicle will have a GPS receiver installed inside it to send the coordinates of its location to the control center. The control center will display the location of the vehicle on Google Maps. Control center will also calculate the Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) to the destination and send it to the Bus Stop via GSM. ETA will be displayed at the bus stop for the waiting passengers.
Our project has 3 basic modules i.e. Bus Tracker, Control Center, and the Bus Stop Display. The Bus Tracker is installed on the transport vehicle. The control center is the central station of the entire system. It receives data from the bus tracker, processes it, maps the location on a Google Map and sends the ETA to the bus stop. The Bus Stop Display receives the ETA from the control center and displays it on the bus stop. |
