dc.description.abstract To fulfill the growing bandwidth requirement and to efficiently utilize capacity of fiber, vari-ous switching architectures have been developed. The focus is to minimize end to end delay, increase bandwidth utilization and minimize loss of data. In Optical Circuit Switching path is established between source and destination before sending data. In Optical Packet switching packets are routed individually based on the destination. Optical Burst Switching (OBS) is an emerging technology that allows variable size optical data bursts to be transported, where each burst contains number of packets. In OBS neither long time connection is established like in OCS nor is data transported in very small size packets as in OPS. Despite the fact that Optical Burst Switching removes shortcoming of both OPS and OCS there are chances of data loss in OBS. Bimodal Burst Switching (BBS) is an efficient algorithm of OBS that avoids loss of data but it does not differentiate among classes of traffics to provide QoS pro-posed in [16]. Keeping in view the importance of BBS we have introduced techniques in BBS to provide Quality of Service. We have extended BBS for three classes of traffic i.e. video, voice, data. The goal is to design and test burst aggregation and scheduling algorithms for these classes of traffic which will ensure that resources are utilized in efficient manner and the requirement of highest priority traffic is fulfilled first and no parameters i.e. delay goes beyond the accepta-ble limit for any class of traffic. en_US
