Broadband wireless is a hot research area throughout the world and is growing very fast. New technologies, such as WiMAX, are in the market to overcome the problems associated with former technologies. WiMAX has got two main standards which are IEEE 802.16d (fixed WiMAX) and IEEE 802.16e (mobile WiMAX). Mobile WiMAX is a new standard of broadband wireless that has a lot of research associated with it to make it a global standard. This technology has got a lot of potential to become the future of broadband wireless service but the main problem associated with it is its quality of service that’s why this project focuses on the vital issues of “Quality of Service of 802.16e”.
Simulator used for this purpose is MATLAB which do not have the module of the transmitter and receiver of 802.16e yet. Therefore this project first concentrated on the design of the transmitter and receiver of WiMAX system, including all of the important features of this technology such as adaptive modulation, adaptive resource allocation, triple encoding and OFDMA, in the MATLAB. After designing the transmitter and receiver, this project moved to the analysis, via simulations, of two of the most important parameters of QoS of WiMAX which are throughput and bit error rate (BER). These simulations have been performed for two scenarios one is single transmitter and single receiver (STSR) with FFT size of 256 and the other is single transmitter and multiple receivers (STMR) with FFT size of 512 which is one of the recommended FFT sizes of mobile WiMAX. |
