dc.description.abstract In vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs), the topology is highly dynamic due to the movement of nodes, hence frequent paths break occur in the topology demands the optimized routing protocol aware of fast topology change. In this project, we use the available knowledge about the network’s topology to optimize the original routing protocol’s performance through adding the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) factor to calculate Multipoint Relay (MPR). RSSI is used to evaluate distance between nodes by using two ray ground model and Friss equation. Finally, we compare the performance of our method with the original protocol, which is already an optimized version of Optimized Link State Routing Protocol. Simulation results for scenarios of heterogeneous density of vehicles at different ranges of data rates show that our scheme exhibits better average throughput and packet delivery ratio than the original routing protocol. This observation is valid for both high and low density of vehicles, being even more evident when the density increases. en_US
