dc.description.abstract Modern cell-based wireless networks have trends like continuous increase in the number of cells and utilization of higher frequency bands to meet the explosive demands of high-capacity and broadband wireless access. It requires a large number of base stations (BSs) to be deployed; therefore, cost-effective BS development is a key to success in the market. Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) technology has been proposed to reduce the system cost, since it provides functionally simple BSs that are interconnected to a central control station (CS) via an optical Fiber. Extensive research efforts have been carried for the development of physical layer such as simple BS development and radio signal transport techniques over Fiber [24]. This project is focused on “ANALYSIS OF RADIO-OVER-FIBER MODULATION SCHEMES” Employing the appropriate modulation scheme can effectively improve the system performance. Until now, three different modulation schemes, such as Double Side Band (DSB), Single Side Band (SSB), and Optical Carrier Suppression (OCS) have been demonstrated to accomplish the task of transmitting RF signal from Control (CS) to Base Station (BS) via an optical fiber. The performance evaluation was then carried out using simulation in RSoft’s OptSim. Simulation results showed the BER of 10-18 for 40 km transmission distance for the received signal in case of OCS, BER of 10-02 in case of DSB and BER of 10-10 in case of SSB. Hence OCS is the best possible option for transmission of RF signal from control station to base station via an optical fiber. en_US
