Abstract:
Shortage of time due to the urban lifestyle of today plays a dictating role in our daily routine. Hence the need of remote monitoring and transferring of data is a key requirement today. Keeping this in mind we aim at designing and implementing a system that can be used to remotely monitor and manage the fitness of individuals. Our design would consist of a portable mobile device that would be able to keep track of distance covered and time elapsed along with some other parameters such as calories burnt by the user when he/she is out for a jog/walk. The software allows the user to interact with the device in order to provide maximum flexibility. The user is able to perform multiple tasks such as entering his step size, viewing his performance parameters by using a keypad. The device is basically microcontroller based and involves interfacing between LCD display, mobile phone set and a step counter circuit.
Once the jog is complete all the collected information will then be sent to a remote home station using GSM short messages. The remote home station consists of a website developed in ASP.NET 2008 and a GSM mobile phone interfaced with web server via Bluetooth serial port service. After reception of GSM short message, performance parameters would be extracted and updated in database that could later be used to access and analyze the performance statistics.
Hence our system would enable a trainer or a doctor to remotely monitor the performance of the device users and use data such as daily jogging logs to recommend changes/ adjustments to client’s daily exercise routine without having to meet them in person.
