Abstract:
Anticipating floods before they occur or detecting it as soon as it occurs allow for precautions to be taken and people to be warned so that they can be prepared in advance for flooding conditions. The aim of FFDS is to measure real time river water dispense (i.e. water level & speed) and use this information to generate earliest flood warnings. The information is collected from sensors connected in a wireless sensor network (WSN), at remote Data Acquisition Stations on Water Bodies. The readings from sensors are sent to the main server via SMS, where this information is stored, manipulated & warnings are generated. The flood warnings are sent to registered users via SMS and email automatically. A flash flood is a rapid flooding of geomorphic low-lying areas: washes, rivers, dry lakes and basins. It may be caused by heavy rain associated with a severe thunderstorm, hurricane, tropical storm (e.g. monsoon), or melted water from ice or snow flowing. Flash floods are distinguished from a regular flood by a timescale of less than six hours. In Pakistan the type of flood due to monsoon rainfall is surely an example of flash floods. No doubt there is an urgent need of a system which can detect flash floods in the Pakistan. Hence not only saving the infrastructure loss to the country but also saving millions of precious lives. This project covers almost all fields of software engineering (hardware Programming, Networking, and desktop application development).
