URL Filtering in broadband access technologies (URL-FiBat)

Abstract

With the rapid speed progress of internet and web throughout the world, some problems have also been noticed because of it. The most important among these is unwanted and infuriating content on the web. This thesis proposes architecture of a system that filters out the URL requests on the basis of some policy which will be defined at the server. That server will be controlled only by the administrator who can add, delete and modify policies. Content based filtering will be done by capturing the HTTP web requests and filtering out the content according to the policy. Content searching is text based searching. The keywords entered by the administrators are filtered out if appearing on the requested webpage. The administrator is logged in and enters the policies using a web application. Using this proxy server enables a range of users, from network administrator to a single-user client at home, to filter the network traffic of his browser.
