Abstract:
This project demonstrates the benefits of Business Intelligence systems. BI systems are used widely for modern day challenges. Now there is a more competitive environment across the globe. The major requirement of organizations is to have a real time Business Intelligence Systems, which would help them to be efficient and effective. The main purpose of having business intelligence systems is to provide the organization, an efficient decision making process and to allow them access to information on time.
The project was done in collaboration with IBM Pakistan and NUST school of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Main objective is to take one of the industries preferred BI solution (IBM COGNOS) to address the needs of a textile industry. The case study is of Textile industry. The project is about how IBM COGNOS BI and IBM SPSS can be used to develop data model, dashboards, reports and predictive analysis. We have used ‘inflation rate’ , ’ Dollar rate’, ’ Gas Rate’, ‘ Fuel Rate’ for ‘Performance Trends’.
We have taken data from a Textile company. Collected data was first refined and then loaded to DB2. A metadata model was generated in the framework manager and package was published to generate reports. The SPSS tool was used for predictive analysis.
In order to continue the research and development in this field one can increase the number of variables like economic growth rate etc., which could affect the sales of a Textile industry.
