Abstract:
Handheld device’s popularity has increased many folds over the past 3-4 years. The mark has crossed 15 million nationwide, and the telecom sector is reckoned as the most growing sector in Pakistan at the moment. With a few rare exceptions, almost 80% of the educated personnel are carrying mobile phones or some other handheld computing device capable of communication via GPRS, Bluetooth, or WiFi. Such an environment has forced developers to come up with new and innovative ideas of mobile computing and automation.
The purpose of this project was to create a wireless system, which would facilitate the corporate and academic environment, by providing a number of services, which are accessed through the end user’s handheld device, such as a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) or a mobile phone.
Wireless systems are expected to replace the existing wired networks in a few years. Our research work was based on the vision that there is an enormous amount of exploratory work ongoing in the field of wireless technologies. If such a system can be created which incorporates one of the fastest growing technologies, it would be a benefit to not only those who use the system, but to the whole country’s progress as a technological state.
The project used Bluetooth Technology, an increasingly popular technology for wireless networks. To implement the project, extensive study was needed, and therefore many books were consulted. Extensive searching on the Internet was also conducted, and there was hardly any website or article on the Internet which was not gone through.
Once the study was complete, the project was implemented, and was successfully tested on the NIIT Wireless Network.
