Educational applications on mobile devices are very useful for enhancing learning capabilities of children. Learning effectiveness directly depends upon the user interface of these applications. The more usable and attractive the interface is, the more interest shown by children in using these applications. This research will be an extension of already carried out research on designing a novel framework for usability evaluation of children educational applications [1]. In this research, initially that usability evaluation framework is validated by evaluating some of the well-reputed android educational applications, which are freely available in the market. Usability comparison between these apps is made and interface design issues are identified using the framework. Based on findings a new android educational application is designed and implemented. The implemented app is also evaluated by conducting usability testing with children in order to establish the marked improvements in the interface design with reference to previously faced usability issues. In accordance with new design features available in mobile platforms, some necessary changes are also made in this framework to cover all usability metrics during evaluation. Newly implemented application is then reevaluated using modified framework to confirm its applicability. |
