A host of software tools are helping businesses find new ways to collaborate online and with in an organization. The tools are covering almost all dimensions of communication from transferring text to video and voice transfer. Choosing the right technology for development of such soft wares is a must. The world is moving towards component based software development (COMPONENT OBJECT MODEL) for better maintenance and reusability. The project was to design and develop chatting platform, voice chat solution, discussion forum and E-Mail system and pack in different software components to take advantages of component based development. Another reason for developing these soft wares using component object model is that they can be easily integrated with a single application creating a valuable product covering almost all dimensions of communication. The chatting component is designed and developed in a way that people can share information and ideas. A facility like transfer of files is given to make a real knowledge sharing environment and making the communication work easy in an organization. Voice communication across computer networks is proving to be very economical and efficient solution for many organizational activities. The major consideration in development of voice communication solution is the quality of voice. Voice chat component is designed and developed in a way that it is very easy to integrate with the applications. Discussion is a collective process of articulating knowledge into a series of argumentative statements. The major consideration while designing the components for discussion platform was to archive the discussions in such a way that it easy to maintain. The data standard used for archiving is platform independent. E-Mail is the most popular amongst all the dimensions of communication. It attracts the users and help them to asses the importance of communication technologies and to use them. The E-Mail system designed and developed provides all the basic operation of mail. The development of these communication soft wares using component based approach (COMPONENT OBJECT MODEL) leaves a room for easy improvement and enhancement of these soft wares in future.
