Security Auditing Tool for Windows Network (SAT)

Abstract

Network security has always been a major concern for companies. Many a time’s poor network security has resulted into huge amount of losses for the companies. Companies need to be responsible for their own protection. For long-term success, companies must take decisive action to quickly change existing thinking and processes to be more proactive. Accurate security audits bring a valuable perspective to the vulnerabilities and flaws of a network, a perspective that enlightens management and administrators. The document describes complete functionality, architecture, design and implementation procedures of a Security Auditing tool, SAT, for windows network. It is a light weight network auditing tool for small and medium size organizations. The product main target is Security administrators and company management who are keen to avoid any kind of security losses. The tool is aimed to find an array of security loop holes and vulnerabilities in a windows network. Administrators can benefit a lot from this tool as it can quickly scan networks and generate easy to read reports. SAT tests all machines present in a network and list down all the weak ones. The percentage of success achieved by the project lies above eighty percent where some of the tests include missing patches, registry checks, weak users etc.

There are quite a few commercial tools available for security audits. Most of these tools are expensive and out of reach of a small and medium size organization. Problems with low budget software’s are that they may scan one aspect and leave the rest.
