This research presentsan early warning system use NODE MCU (ESP2 8266) and different type of soil sensors like moisture sensors and accelerometer. This research is done to devise a simple early warning system, on lab scale, for the early warning of rainfall and earthquake induced landslide for RD (Road Distance) 21 of Islamabad toMurree Expressway. This system was proposed to detect the conditions which lead to the occurrence of landslide and to notify them well before time so that essential steps can be taken to mitigate or save human loss. This system uses soil moisture and accelerometer sensors. Moisture sensors are used to indicate the moisture content in the soil whereas accelerometer is used to check movement of land. An alarm system is also introduced in it so that when readings cross the defined thresholds it should give alarm to local citizen to safeguard themselves. A scaled model of the site was prepared in lab. Soil was collected from the site, at different depths, to make the exact simulation of the site. With the placement of soil sensors were embedded in it. Analysis of the scaled model was done on finite element software SLIDE6.0and factor of safety was calculated for three different cases of Landslide i.e. normal, marginally stable, unstable conditions. Based on these conditions different remedial measures were suggested |
