dc.description.abstract |
Today security of data is of prime importance. Many organizations implement solutions that provide security of their important data. The transmission of data on the network should also be fast and reliable. NUST and its constituent’s colleges also need such a secure mechanism through which the fast transmission of data and reliability can be ensured.
This project presents such implementation as will ensure security, reliability and fast data transmission over the WAN. To achieve this task virtual private network has been installed between the NUST campuses. This creates a tunnel between two points and all the data passes through that tunnel. Tunnel is the logical data path between two nodes. The data that passes through the tunnel cannot be seen by outside world because of the encryption of data. For the establishment of tunnel we used VTun that is the most optimal among all the available VPN protocols in terms of bandwidth utilization, jitter and overhead, considering the university environment. Performance analysis reveals that the bandwidth utilization is 909kbit/sec, jitter is 100ms and packet loss is 34% which is found to be better than the network without tunnel. |
