dc.description.abstract Every day millions of people use cellular phones over radio links. With the increasing features, the mobile phone is gradually becoming a handheld computer. However, the limitation of security in cellular communication is a result of the fact that all cellular communication is sent over the air, which then gives rise to threats from eavesdroppers with suitable receivers. The leakage of information to unauthorized is becoming a dilemma for both the public and private sectors particularly related to military and finance. Keeping this in account, security controls are required to be integrated into GSM to make the system as secure as public switched telephone networks. In this project we will analyze security lopes in GSM networks and develop a functional prototype for the protection of user’s data (SMS, MMS, and Speech) over GSM network. That requires development of a lightweight and a standalone security module to be attached with cell phones. The big challenges will be ensuring confidentiality and anonymity on GSM calls and also the generation and management of secure keys over GSM networks. en_US
