Abstract:
Paralytic strokes are considered as fifth leading cause of death in the world. There are more than eighty million people in the world who are paralyzed and forced to live their lives miserably. In more than seventy percent of the cases, the causes are spinal cord injury, stroke and peripheral nerve injury. We offer a product to Physiotherapists that stimulate the muscles according to the thoughts about movement of muscles and shows limbs movement animation in VR to the patient in order to automate and accelerate the process of rehabilitation through Physiotherapy. In recent years, the assistive technologies and stroke rehabilitation methods have been empowered by the use of virtual reality environments and the facilities offered by brain computer interface systems and functional electrical stimulators. Through our product, we present a therapy system for stroke rehabilitation based on these revolutionary techniques.[1] The idea is to help the patients suffering from hemiparesis to generate movement in the affected limbs by analyzing their brain EEG activity, detect movement signals and accordingly apply FES (Functional Electrical Stimulation) along with showing the animations of a particular limb movement through Virtual Reality.
