Abstract:
ReCyk is Pakistan's first battery assisted bicycle with a regenerative braking system which aims to become the most convenient mode of transportation with an eco-friendly and modern style. It incorporates Pedal Assist System which plugs in energy from the battery only when needed. It uses controlled battery power in conjunction with human power input to help prevent rider from getting exhausted. ReCyk can sense uphill and downhill, thus reacts accordingly. Through advanced digital control system techniques, efficient regenerative mechanism is developed. Regenerative braking system conserves the energy in the battery while applying the brakes, and in return the energy is utilized for pedal assist. The amount of assistance provided by the battery can also be controlled by the user. A mobile app provides information on battery status, distance travelled and measurements of how many calories are burned. ReCyk can become an innovative and healthy lifestyle for short and mid-distance traveling.
This project includes the development of a prototype and testing of the pedal assist and regenerative braking mechanism of the bicycle. The focus of this project is to research on the existing systems, employing pedal assist or regenerative braking algorithms and design controllers with both the mechanisms to be utilized and implemented in bicycles.
