Abstract:
is a huge potential for developing efficient methods for diagnosis and catering of speech disorder using advanced software engineering techniques. Patient with speech disorder jog back and forth for the finding cure and medication for their disorder from the speech clinics. For therapist, the heavy bundle of patient history along with manual detection of patient disorder makes it inconvenient and ineffective in the diagnosis and tracking of patient record. Our project aims to provide platform which links the patient and therapist remotely, making it convenient for the clinicians in diagnoses of speech disorders by assisting in detection of the speech errors and providing patient progress monitoring, as there is growing trend of online medication which provides accessibility and ease to its user.
“Apraxiator” is a web application that aims to provide remote therapy platform by linking the patients and therapists through the application and assisting in diagnosis of the speech disorder. The main features of “Apraxiator” are remote therapy, automated speech recognition, automatic detection of error of speech and the patient’s progress monitoring. It provides assistive support to the therapist by automatically detecting speech errors against prescribed speech tests by using advance speech recognition techniques and using our proposed speech error detection algorithm. Which extracts audio of the remote patient, compares the spoken phonemes with the expected ones and visualizes the errors for diagnostics. The extracted speech data from audio is stored in the patient’s record and visualized for the patient’s and therapist’s review.
The users of our application are patients, therapists and rehabilitation centers. This project will contribute towards the e-Health systems for speech therapy, data extraction for research in speech disorders and remote therapy across the globe. In future, the system can be extended by adding regional languages support and enhancing accuracy for errors specific to speech disorders.
