Smart Locator

Abstract

In this fast moving world, people are always in rush. People usually carry few necessities with them, and we cannot separate mobile phones from these. For one or another reason, it sometime happens that people misplace or lose the thing, and one cannot easily afford losing the thing like mobile. People always want the mobile to be with them. Smart Locator is an Android anti-theft security application for Android phone or tablet users. Smart Locator facilitates its users to find their lost or misplaced mobile or tablet device and to trace unauthorized user of their device within seconds even without internet connection. Smart Locator provides four major features to its users, these features include ringing misplaced device indefinitely even if device is at silent mode, getting exact location of lost device through SMS, getting pictures of unauthorized user or place where device is present, and getting details of the new SIM card if inserted in the device. All of these features can be accessed by sending respective code-word through SMS via any of the whitelist numbers set by the user, except new SIM details that are sent automatically by this application. Most of the existing solutions require internet for finding lost or misplaced device and internet can be unavailable or can be turned off by the unauthorized user, and that can cause application to stop working. However Smart Locator can work even without internet connection. For finding the exact location of the lost device Smart Locator automatically turns on, checks, and uses available resource i.e. GPS, Wi-Fi, and Mobile Data. Moreover, Smart Locator uses Text-message as primary source of communication but it communicates through Email if SMS cannot be sent. Smart Locator is very useful application especially for those people who often lose or misplace their mobile device, and those people who live in area where mobile snatching is common. This application is easy to use with user friendly interface and it does not require any technical knowledge for its users. Smart Locator can be developed further in the future with more features like locking device, hiding confidential data, changing device’s password, removing data from device, getting continuous device’s location updates, etc.
