Even though business-oriented modern aviation is known as a comparatively secure form concerning transportation of goods and souls, the possible hazard to this very marketplace could very well be higher than in all several other transportation segments.
This research was conducted with respect to two aspects. Firstly, the study of aircraft rescue and firefighting management/setup was studied, and an evaluation of aircraft rescue and firefighting management/setup placed at BBIAP, Islamabad was made keeping in view “UN-ICAO ARFF SARPs”. ARFF inspection checklist was used to carryout comparative analysis and the compliance level of BBIAP, Islamabad is examined w.r.t these global standards.
Secondly an evaluation of the resilience level and mental hardiness of firefighters of BBIAP was carried out. Because no matter, how high are the technological facilities available at the disposal of aviation firefighters, till the time these aviation rescuers and aircraft firefighters are not mentally hard, psychologically sound and socially backed up by the protective factors which add up to their resilience level: the rescue operations cannot succeed.
The “Resilience Scale” by Wagnild and Young was used to measure individual and total resilience. The “Dispositional Resilience Scale” DRS15(v.3) of Dr. Bartone was used to calculate aviation firefighters’ mental hardiness, psychological robustness and toughness. |
