dc.description.abstract Contaminated water is one the biggest sources in the spread of diseases. Poor people are deprived of water purification facilities as traditional devices are too expensive and are dependent on the national grid for power. Consequently many people do not have access to clean drinking water. Project PURITY is an affordable, portable and self-powered water purification device that harnesses the energy of the sun to power a Ultra-Violet filtration system to kill the micro-organisms that contaminate water. Added to that, a built in particle filtration system removes suspended particles yielding safe and clean drinking water purified using renewable energy at no operational cost. This document covers the thought process that led to the design of project PURITY in addition to a comprehensive description of the design details of the product. en_US
