dc.description.abstract In the aftermath of Kashmir Earthquake 2005, there has been a potential advancement in the construction design. For regulating construction practices in high seismic zones, ERRA consulted NESPAK to formulate a detailed construction guidelines based on Seismic Provisions 2007 of Pakistan Building Code. We have analyzed the practical implementation of these construction guidelines in Balakot & Muzaffarabad districts, the epicenter of 2005 earthquake. A detailed study visit was conducted of the study area to analyze the major shift in construction post 2005 and the practical implementation of the construction guidelines formulated by ERRA. Problems in the implementation of the guidelines and the inadequate construction practices have been identified with a view to suggest remedial measures to avoid any future disaster. en_US
