Abstract:
This research was based on the TB Risk Analysis based on Union Council
(UC) level of the three districts, Peshawar, Charsadda and Mardan of Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The TB risk factors; Case Notification Ratio (CnR), Population,
Old Age People data, Poverty Incidence and Literacy Ratio were consider for the
years 2007 - 2010. The performance of TB Diagnostic Centers (DCs) data was used
with each DC hinterland to assess its performance. A web-based application was
developed to make the results available on the web to facilitate managers and other
stack holders for better monitoring, supervision and decision making. All the risk
factors of TB were calculated and then assigned to the respective UCs. Each risk
factor was given equal weight to participate in the final result. The DCs performance
were determined by considering the performance indicators, Case Detection Rate
(CDR), Cure Rate (CR), Treatment Success Rate (TR) and Default Rate (DR). CDR
was given the maximum weight of 50 while CR and TR receive 20 each and 10 to
DR.
The results show that the district of Charsadda has the highest No. of UCs in
the High Risk class followed by the district Mardan. Most of the DCs are struggling
for good performance while the DCs with good performance are very few. In the year
2010, the high risk areas were found lesser in number than of the previous years while
in the same year the DCs performance has also been improved.
The identification of the risk areas on UC level will help the NTP and other
agencies in controlling TB by prioritizing the High Risk areas and will help them to
intervene there. The web based application will enhance the monitoring and
supervision of the TB control programme.
