In the last few decades, power demand of developing countries has increased whereas production of electric power is limited which lead to frequent power outages and increase pricing hours. ‘Smart Grids’ is the idea on which the researchers agreed upon several years ago. Various algorithms have been proposed to deal with the electric power sources for incessant power supply. The sources of power may be natural or artificial. In the thesis followed, the sources of electric power supply are Solar Panels, Battery and Electric Grids. Lives of the resources along with system life have to be considered, to obtain notable results. The algorithms proposed in the thesis are Heuristic Algorithm and Genetic Algorithm. The objective of the algorithms is to have minimum cost with un-interrupted electric power supply.
The algorithm is designed in such a way that in the peak pricing hours, Load is shifted to Battery, to avoid effects of unit cost increase on the meter reading. Power outages are handled well in such a way that Load is shifted to Photovoltaic or Battery. The initial cost of the system is significant but it is worth it in the long run. It may lead to the stage that meter may start giving negative monthly readings, leading to the money-making system installation |
