dc.description.abstract The goal of this project is to create a wearable device that allows visually impaired people to navigate in unknown environments and will be aimed at reducing their dependence on the walking sticks that they have to use. The project will make use of Digital image processing, stereo vision concepts and sensor array and will be able to chart out a clear path for its users. The user will be alerted of any immediate obstacles and given an easy to comprehend signal to change his/her course. In effect the dependence on other people/walking sticks/animals to navigate in unknown environments will be eliminated. Resultantly, those suffering from complete or partial vision-loss, will be able to maneuver in unaccustomed surroundings much more comfortably, and quickly, than before. Previous attempts at this project were faced with the particular problem of not being able to detect featureless objects, however the fusion of sensor array with stereo camera technology allows us to detect objects with distinct features and also those which are featureless. en_US
