Abstract:
Emerging technologies, electronic and social media has made it possible to make this world a global village. When we compare the past two decades of with 20th century, we can say now it is a matter of seconds for the people, living in different continents, to get connected. Along with the benefits, that globalization has brought, there are consequences and a lot of problems are still unsolved.
There are hundreds of faces we see in our daily lives but we do not know them as we need to know. Increasing communication-gap among the individuals living/working in the same localities has made the lives difficult. Most of the talented people are underprivileged in our workspaces. This lack of communication leads the individuals to doubt their own abilities or doubt the extent to which any action they take will substantively alter their future life path and they tend to keep living in their comfort zones.
We (MapGross) believe if we connect the individuals in near vicinities, they can collaborate to be more productive in their lives. There can be more opportunities to work/live collaboratively and creatively.
The aim of our application is to provide the communities a platform where acquaintances can get connected in localities and can collaborate to share resources, skills and interests and solve local issues. Another main outcome of MapGross will be to increase the working opportunities for working man power and service providers in localities and consequently, better workforce available for the hirers and services acquirers. Some of the challenges include managing large datasets, getting enough people to use the product to get meaningful and reliable data during the development stages as well as making a complete and market ready system in a short period of time.
Some of the existing social applications that are connecting individuals are Facebook which is one of the largest social media throughout the globe, was made to connect people around the world. Facebook was not made primarily for local communities. Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Ask, Quora are the examples of other social networking platforms which are also not meant for local communities.
