Deployment of IBM Tivoli Identity Manager (Version 5.0) on Windows Platform (Server 2003)

Abstract

This project titled ‘Deployment of Tivoli Identity Manager Version 5.0 on Windows Server 2003’ is being pursued under the collaboration of NUST School of Electrical Engineering, Software Productivity Strategists Inc and IBM Pakistan. The high-level aim of the project is to successfully deploy and configure one of the largest selling suites of IBM.

The importance of Security and data management has increased in the modern world. Consequently organizations have started to focus on user management, security compliance and access rights governance. Organizations find solution to these problems through Identity Management Systems. Almost all Identity Management Systems operational today tend to provide some basic functionalities to the users, IBM Technologies have moved one step ahead by providing an Identity Management Solution that is comprehensive and complete in every respect.

Tivoli Identity management Systems is IBM Software that helps enterprises strengthen and automate internal controls governing user access rights. It reduces Administrative costs and improve productivity to automation, user self service and other innovative capabilities. By using this, New User can automatically provisioned to the accounts they need in minutes instead of days. Organizations demonstrate compliance by controlling and monitoring access to the sensitive information so that they can stay competitive by providing access to more information to more users or different types of users, customers, employees and suppliers than ever before.

Deployment of Tivoli Identity Manager V5.0 on Windows Platform is very helpful in creating an environment that makes an organization secure, productive, efficient and easily manageable. It has reduced the costs of administration and lot of time for managing identities across different applications. In short it has automated and made secure the whole systems of organization with less errors and high customization. Through this project we have not only tried to deploy a technology that make things easier for any organization, but also to cover the gap that lies with respect to the IBM documentations. We have tried to document each and every step that we have done in this project, so that it can be useful for any future endeavor.

IBM being business partner of NUST provided us with an online account from where we could download the installation media. This extensive collaboration may lead to the initiation of several project related to these technologies.
