dc.description.abstract Many metropolitan areas have seen explosive growth in the number of vehicles due to urban revitalization, extension of transit services to suburban areas and general trend towards increased mobility. Most municipalities use a paper-based system to enforce regulations. Otherwise, the use of parking meters and parking cards provides only a partial solution to the problem of: • Parking frustration • Making people follow parking rules • Collecting fees for parking. Parking Enforcement Automated System (PEAS) is an alternative to the manual parking system which automates the parking rule enforcement, fine ticket generation, report processing and user record management. Nowadays a rapid increase in the number of vehicles on the roads requires an efficient way of enforcing restrictions with lesser human interaction. PEAS is a system that combines parking rules in a single framework, providing faster information access with minimum human intervention. The project intends to eliminate the tedious manual work involved in parking enforcement processes and provide an automated GPRS based solution. The project helps manage the flow of traffic in an efficient and effective manner and it also helps in utilizing the parking space in a better way. en_US
