Abstract:
In today’s world, ailments triggered by diet and food intake like obesity, diabetes, cholesterol, heart strokes etc. are rampant and more widespread than ever before. People are now more inclined towards making a difference in their diet plans by paying more attention to what they feed their body on. “Rate your plate” being an android application is a step towards creating awareness based on health and fitness concerns so people can eat and live in a better way. The idea is to let the user “rate his plate” by understanding the nutritional content, ingredients of their food and corresponding effects on our body health. Its major objective is to target people falling in diverse categories, from fitness connoisseurs to anyone who may be concerned about their diet and health. With simple swipes on an android phone a person can rate his/her plate as healthy or unhealthy. This feasibility in turn self-motivates individuals in making healthier dietary decisions by knowing content of the food they eat. The idea is based on food detection mechanism to understand what we eat better by providing facts on attributes, nutritional content, ingredients and animated visualization of food. Existing solution include application like MyFitnessPal require the user to manually enter their daily food intake. Our application is an improvement over this wearisome task of manual entry as it allows the user to simply take a picture. The application recognizes the item itself and educates the user about his/her meal. There are approaches that use mobile camera instead of manual data entry to accelerate this task but it does not process the image for any classification.
