Abstract:
Pyrolysis plant is a fully automated process whereby waste tyres are recycled. The main
contribution of the project is to avoid environmental problems for the people as tyre is a
hazardous waste which is the home of dengue and malaria. Previously the dumping of tyres in
the landfill was a major reason of land pollution as the decomposition of tyres took hundreds of
years. To conduct the process in controlled conditions, avoiding the release of toxic waste from
the tyres into the land, soil, air, and water the technique of pyrolysis was adopted. Tyres have a
complex structure that has almost 75-85% of rubber in it and rest made up of steel wires. The
natural decay of rubber takes a lot of time so if it is thrown away in landfills will stay there for
years. The management of waste has a great concern over the disposal as tyres are made of
styrene-butadiene rubber which is highly non-biodegradable, and its disposal became a hot topic
in the developing economies of many countries.
Our syndicate planned to conduct certain analysis on these plants and put forward our reports so
that its usefulness can identified. With the advent of installation of these plants, Pakistan became
capable of processing used tyres in a very sustainable way. Despite of the fact, how useful this
process was, it did not get much recognition in our country. We covered many aspects of this
process, and created a detailed report on its working, products, by-products, environmental
impacts, workers, and nearby population.
As compared to the other disposals of used tyre’s pyrolysis is an especially useful process as it is
ecofriendly, and all the products and byproducts produced by this process are especially useful.
This process has curbed the problem of pollution and has made the tyres a source of raw material
for many other industries. The steel wires separated from the tyres are readily accepted by the
steel manufacturing industry, carbon produced during the process is acceptable too many
industries cement factories, and the major product of this process that is the oil has many users.
If used in its crude form TPO becomes furnace oil and is transported to kiln etc. If this oil is
processed further, it can be converted into diesel and can be used as a better-quality fuel in
automobiles.
