Several Human-Centered Design (HCD), user experience and usability improvement (UXUI) approaches, methodologies, process models (PM), techniques, frameworks are proposed and applied for different software development phases. Practitioners are confronting challenges in considering user experience and usability (UXU) due to various UXU issues in the design and development of an Interactive System (IS). To discern these challenges, in this thesis, a systematic literature review-based survey of UXUI practices is conducted. The outcome of the survey is in the form of gaps and challenges in UXUI practices for constructing IS. From the investigation of existing UXUI work, none is addressing the gaps and challenges comprehensively and adequately (identified in our systematic survey). Therefore, to address the identified gaps and challenges, a comprehensive HCD process model (HCDPM) is proposed. In this model, we introduce three processes worth considering and recommended ways to improve UXU. Moreover, the guidelines for implementing our proposed model recommend for the designers/developers to create the IS in both user and developer-friendly ways. To evaluate and validate the effectiveness of our proposed model, we use some case studies with existing interface and then compare those with the interfaces generated by applying our model. Our proposed model resulted in improved usability and enriched UX with high user satisfaction. |
