Abstract:
Transient instability is a key component, halting the consistent and continuous
supply of electricity to the consumers. To ensure the transient stability in a large
synchronized power system, various devices and their control schemes were de veloped. Flexible AC transmissions (FACTs) devices are best among those de vices and unified power flow controller (UPFC) is most versatile among FACT’s
devices. UPFC comprises two voltage source converters (VSCs). Equations of
VSC are inherently non-linear. VSCs are regulated by the common linear and
non-linear control approaches based upon PWM. This thesis presents a novel
non-linear control approach to improve the power flow control and voltage reg ulation ability of the UPFC over the transmission line. The proposed controller
is based on synergetic control approach. Mathematical modelings of series and
shunt controls are evaluated and the control algorithm is proposed. To validate
the superiority of the proposed controller, various case studies are performed and
their simulation results are compared with the traditional linear and nonlinear con trollers.
