Abstract:
This research makes an effort to break vendor lock-ins in optical channels and
communication. Using 100G Coherent Switch Transponder, Cassini AS7716-
24SC (a state of the art advanced state transponder), and Lumentum whitebox
ROADM-20, we have setup a disaggregated optical link channel, with dissected
data and control planes with the help of open software defined network controller,
ONOS, programmed by the optical emulator extension, Mininet Optical. The
pace of the modern era cannot be matched by legacy networks. The progress
advancement of protocols often find themselves hindered with the rigidness and
non-compatibility of existing networks, rigged with proprietariness and vendor locking. The lack of interoperability between optical devices and networks in
traditional networks and architecture diminish the potential to devise faster, better,
more secure, scalable, flexible and efficient network architectures. The choice of
equipment, both hardware and software, is no coincidence, but has been very
intelligently and deliberately put together. Each component plays a vital role and
specialized function. In this research, we will demonstrate the working of our
setup starting with a brief introduction of the equipment followed by explanation
of the architecture and design of complete optical connectivity and ultimately the
results of our working scenario of real life disaggregated open optical network.
