Comparative Analysis of Electric Vehicles Market Share: Comparing Pakistan with Major Performing Countries /

Abstract

Electric vehicle (EV) adoption is one of the popular methods of decarburization of the transport sector. Developed countries like Norway, Netherlands, and Iceland have a major share of EVS in their transport sector. The EV success story of these countries has a lot from where a developing nation like Pakistan can learn and devise its road map for vehicle electrification. Policy becomes the basis of how well can an initiative be put to reality. Pakistan`s EV policy that has been drafted in June 2020 has a long way to go before it bears fruit. China, India, and Chile are the nations where EV market share is the greatest among developing countries. These countries have a lot in common with Pakistan like GDP, Geographical challenges, and audience mind-set. From the experience of these countries, knowledge can be extracted about the challenges that need to be overcome before making Pakistan`s EV policy a success. China, India, Norway, and the Netherlands are 30@30 signatories and accordingly will strive to attain an EV market share of 30% till 2030 except two-wheelers. This aims to discover and analyses the EV policies of the mentioned countries assessing their determinants and respective implications through textual analysis using NVivo software. The study also provides an overview for Pakistan for reconsideration of a successful EV policy based on the experiences of these developing and developed nations.
