Abstract:
Purpose of this research is to obtain LWC to replace conventional brick using low density foam, cement, sand, and pumice whilst achieving a target compressive strength of 1500psi. The Sand cement s/c was set to one in this study. At the beginning foam was added using a dilution ratio of 1:25 to the mixture of cement and sand in portions of 5%, 10% and 15% replacement by volume. It was observed that the density and strength decreased by increased foam addition. Foam replacements of 5% was selected for adding pumice. Pumice replaced sand in proportions of 5%, 10% and 15% by volume. Ater adding pumice a decrease in density and decrease in compressive strength was observed. Results showed that addition of 5% foam dosage and replacement of sand with 5% pumice gave optimum results with compressive strength of 1540 psi and density of dry density of 1468 kg/m3. After selecting the best brick, it was compared with an ordinary clay brick in order to analyze its strength against compression, flexure, absorption, and fire rating.
