Abstract:
With the increase in the number of automobiles on the road, pollution increased that is
why environmental concern is the main focus. There is a need to introduce electric
vehicles in the market. Electric Vehicles penetrate the grid as a load and their integration
causes high peak demand at the distribution side. Due to such high demand, it causes
overloading at the distribution transformer. In this paper, mainly focus on the different
charging profile of EV impacts in the distribution transformer. Level 1, level 2, and
level 3 are the charging profiles which act as a load and these have different impacts on
the transformer. In this study, observe each charging profile impacts and try to reduce
them using the technique known as Demand Response. To accommodate EVs in the
system there is a need to upgrade the distribution system which is a costly solution.
Demand Response (DR) is the solution that improves transformer usage. In the DR
technique customer load preference and privacy, these two things are major concerns.
Simulate the whole day household appliances in the MATLAB/SIMULINK and observe
the loading in the distribution transformer. Then apply Electric Vehicle (EV) load on the
distribution transformer and observe when transformer is overloading. By using the
power management tool known as Demand Response and reduces the overloading. All
the simulated results are attached below.
