Health Safety and Environment always remained a major issue in construction industry. In developing countries many efforts were taken to solve these issues and minimize the accident and injuries rate in construction sector but all results were far from satisfactory and this sector continue to dominate the accident rate from other sectors. Measures have been taken by government authorities and majority companies but the accident rate is still alarming. Pakistan is one of the developing countries and currently having a strong growth in construction sector. This study especially investigates the hazards and risks on construction site, the importance of Health and Safety Policy and trainings in order to make a positive Health and Safety culture. The present study deal with the identification of Health Safety and Environmental hazards, there causes at construction site. In this study the primary and secondary data were collected from construction workers. Questionnaire was used as data collection tool for primary data, whereas secondary data was collected from different government departments; Peshawar Development Authority (PDA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Directorate of Labor Peshawar, Planning and Development Department Peshawar and various Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) standards such as ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001 and OSHA US labor department reports. SPSS was used for data analysis. The results showed that the hazards at construction site were assessed with regular inspection and Health Safety policy and were statistically significant (P < 0.05), Based upon the result analysis during the construction of BRT project Peshawar there was poor degree of risk awareness due to lack of Health Safety regulations and policy and Health Safety and Environment were not considered as an important issue at construction site. |
