Abstract:
Energy demand is on a rise ever since the last decade. This demand was conventionally fulfilled using fossil fuels. However, the extensive use of fossil fuels has caused significant amount of damage to environment. Pakistan relies heavily on fossil fuels for meeting its energy demand which has led to damaging the Pakistan’s environment. Renewable resource utilization is seen as the clean and green sustainable solution to this environmental issue. Various renewable resources available in Pakistan are assessed and their direct and in-direct impact on environment are accounted for in the study. Based on the evaluation of the research study, it is seen that the Bio-mass direct combustion is the least favorable option for the sustainable development. Run-off river, solar and wind power are among the favorable options to be implemented in case of Pakistan with minimal impacts. However, based on the assessment of the renewable technologies it can be said that only the utilization of renewable technologies in not the ultimate solution of the environmental problem of Pakistan.
