Abstract:
Renewable energy utilization is growing rapidly in the past few decades. To integrate the
renewable resources into the grid, DC-DC converters are often required. In case of renewables such as PV and fuel cells, high conversion gain is required. A lower voltage stress across the switch is also preferred while achieving a high conversion gain. This research focuses on a novel high gain CUK converter using voltage multiplier units (VMUs). The proposed converter uses a modified CUK converter which offers a higher gain as compared to conventional CUK converter. VMUs are then integrated into the proposed topology to increase the gain further. In order to compute the gain at various stages of the converter, a mathematical model is developed for the proposed converter. Simulation study is performed to validate the results obtained from the mathematical model. It also enables us to observe the stress across different components. An experimental setup is designed to validate the results from the simulation and the mathematical model and observer the working of the proposed converter in real time.
