In Pakistan, the construction industry has not seen many technological advancements
for an exceptionally long time, and it relies upon the techniques being used for several
decades now. 3D printing in construction is one of the latest innovations in the industry and
its use has already begun to be adopted in many countries to aid in the construction process as
it’s an effective way of reducing labour costs, producing less waste, and at the same time
being faster and more accurate.
This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the reasons causing
hindrance to the mainstream adoption of 3D printing in Pakistan and demonstrate its potential
usefulness if it were to be widely adopted. A detailed survey was carried out among the
industry experts which helped identify the barriers faced in introducing such technology in
construction industry of Pakistan. A few of the key barriers identified in our study include
accessibility of required materials, all types of 3D printers being banned in Pakistan, and
various economic challenges. The study shows how more favourable legislation by governing
authorities can provide the boost this emerging technology needs so that those in Pakistan can
reap its benefits. |
