dc.description.abstract During past few years, significant attention has been paid to the chemistry of azo linked Schiff bases due to important chemical moiety and their extensive multidisciplinary applications, optical properties, used in high performance organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), bio diagnostic tools and conductor-based sensory devices. Due to nonbiodegradability and high-risk effects of heavy metals on human health and environment, detection of these metals is of extreme interest. For this purpose, chelation and selectivity of synthetic compounds with metal is important due to presence of active donor sites as these cost-effective azo linked Schiff bases can selectively detect metals through change in color intensity. In present research work, novel azo linked Schiff bases have been synthesized, characterized by spectroscopic techniques. Metal sensing ability has been determined by using azo linked Schiff based liquid crystal sensor and biological screening of synthesized compounds have also been evaluated en_US
