Excessive use of mobile phones started pulling people away from each other and people now use their mobiles even in the middle of their face to face communication.
This behavior interrupts interpersonal communications and defined as phubbing. Focus of the current study has been on the phubbing behavior in the context of relationship satisfaction of married people and aimed to find the associations between partner phubbing and relationship satisfaction. This quantitative correlation study has also investigated interaction effects of self-esteem and relationship length on the association between partner phubbing and relationship satisfaction. Two hundred and sixty seven married people completed the survey which includes measures of partner phubbing, relationship satisfaction, self-esteem, and relationship length. The results revealed that partner phubbing was negatively and significantly associated with relationship satisfaction. However, relationship length and selfesteem did not moderate the association between partner phubbing and relationship satisfaction. The results of this study also suggest introducing some interventions to stop or reduce phubbing behavior among married people. Limitations and further recommendations have also been discussed. |
