Abstract:
With the rapid developments in the field of communication vis-a-vis Antenna, there is always a
need for new research and improved communication protocols and designs. In the field of antenna
latest trends of research are following Fifth Generation (5G) and Sixth Generation (6G) communication
systems. In depth literature review and analysis of a novel antenna is carried out in this thesis and
based on this literature review a research problem is formulated. Major problems of 5G/6G antennas
designs include low gain, narrow bandwidth, complex structure, complex feed design and multilayer
structures. To solve the aforementioned problems a novel millimeter waves patch antenna is proposed.
The antenna uses a unique shaped feeding mechanism of circular loop to feed multiple circular patch
antennas at the same time. Three circular patch antennas are attached to the feeding structure.
The patches are designed to radiate at different frequency within that required operating frequency
band. The antenna targets a wide frequency band from 23.66 GHz to 28.73 GHz. The antenna
achieves a measured peak gain of 11.96 dBi at 26 GHz while 9.5 dBi and 10.64 dBi at 24 GHz and 28
GHz, respectively along with a measured bandwidth of 16.93%. The proposed antenna has broadside
radiation patterns in the operating frequency band. The proposed antenna finds application in the 5G
and 6G mobile communication technologies.
